Do know your customer: pt 1.
Words can be easily misinterpreted, so it’s very important in the world of business to get to grips with the corporate language of the people you’re selling to. For example, if you’re off flogging your goods to a straight-talking Scottish bloke, learn to understand the complimentary scale of his adjectives. Here – this will probably be of some help:
The ‘blunt Scot’ adjective translator:
Fucking shite: truly awful
Shite = not good
Alright = very good/well
Good = excellent
So for context, should someone say to you, ‘Aye, they’re doin’ alright lass/lad’ about your product, then this should be interpreted as, ‘Despite my previous misgivings about you and your greeting cards, I am pleased to say they are going down very well within my store.’
